A school ma'am self-portrait!

6" x 6"
oil on board

Another solemn self-portrait! My intention was to paint a slightly happier version but alas here I am again looking stern and sombre, a bit like a school ma'am...hmmm you want to try concentrating plus holding a perpetual grin for two hours solid...not an easy task!! There are a couple of adjustments that need to be made to the painting but on the whole I'm not unhappy with it.

  1. i love your palette and colors (the greens here and there and orange at the chin), as much as i love portraits I find painting them and creating the flesh colors impossible. So it is a very successful painting but it doesn't look like you.I hope I'm not offending you.

  2. That's quite alright Bayda you're not offending me at all! . Art is very subjective and I enjoy receiving your comments. My aim at the moment is to build my skill toward fast, fresh outcomes. For the sake of the painting I decided to call it finished when I did and not continue altering it in pursuit of a likeness as it might have lost the freshness I was trying to achieve. I have to say though that my son recognises the facial expression as one that I used to use when reprimanding him!:)
